Coach Lucas Smith

Lucas Smith joined the Shockwave Coaching Staff in May of 2002.

Throughout his coaching career, Lucas has produced junior national qualifiers, sectional qualifiers, zone qualifiers, and state record holders as well as state champions.

In 2001, coach Smith was the MS Zone Team assistant coach.  Lucas’ wealth of knowledge, experience and enthusiasm for the sport of swimming has been evident throughout his career.  In 2001, he launched his Columbus based team back into the state swimming scene as a yearly powerhouse.  That same year, his peers selected him as the American Swim Coaches Coach of the Year for Mississippi.

Smith holds a Bachelor of Education degree in Physical Education.  Lucas is a Physical Education instructor with the Tupelo public school district.

Coach Smith’s high school achievements include: multi-time state champion, All-Star team member, and Zone team member.  These achievements allowed him a scholarship to Delta State University where he held school records in individual and relay events and a 2 time NSISL All-Conference status.

Coach Smith and his wife Kristy have 3 daughters, MacKenzie, who swims on the Shockwave team, Alexis and Emma Kate, who we are sure will continue the swimming tradition.
